Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
